1. Nirmala School was started as a Hindi Medium School in 1958 with infant classes. In 1962, Nirmala Primary School got recognition from the Andaman & Nicobar Administration with effect from 1st April, 1961, vide Order No. 1939, and dated 5thAugust, 1962.
  2. The Government of India, Ministry of Education, New Delhi, approved the pattern of assistance (vide letter No. F. 16-2/65-BSE-5, dated 3rd June, 1966) and first time Grant-in-aid was sanctioned for the school for the period from 01-01-1965 to 31-12-1965 (vide Order No. 620, dated 13th December, 1966).
  3. In 1967, Nirmala Primary School got recognition as Nirmala Middle School from Andaman & Nicobar Administration and was upgraded with classes up to Class –VIII.
  4. The pattern of Financial assistance initially was 100% until 1968. But the pattern of assistance to the school was reduced to 95% when the Delhi Education Code, 1965 became applicable to Aided School of these Islands.
  5. In 1971, Nirmala Middle School was upgraded into Higher Secondary School and Grant-in-Aid was also approved for the school. The school got affiliation form CBSE, New Delhi.
  6. In 1977, the Central Board of Secondary Education modified the scheme of studies to 10+2 pattern. Nirmala School also introduced the pattern and the school became a Senior Secondary School. The first batch of Class –XII students appeared in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) in 1979 with Humanities Stream (Arts). In 1983, the school introduced Science Stream at +2 level.
  7. In 1984, Nirmala Senior Secondary School got its new magnificent building which was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi and was blessed by Most Rev. Pius Kerketta, S.J. , Arch Bishop of Ranchi.
  8. K.V. pattern of Education was introduced in the school from the academic session 2005-2006.
  9. Pre-primary Class (K.G.-II), in English Medium, was introduced in the school from the academic session 2013 -2014. NO Grant-in-Aid is received from the Andaman & Nicobar Administration for the salary of the Pre-Primary staff.
  10. Today, the School imparts education through the medium of English and Hindi from the Primary to Senior Secondary level. It has been recognized by the Directorate of Education, A & N Administration and is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.
  11. The school prepares students for the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE) and All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE). At Senior Secondary level the school offers Science and Arts streams of Education for students.
  12. The school has large and well equipped Science Laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately, a large Auditorium, Home Science Lab, Computer Lab, Library, Mathematics Lab, Craft room, Games Room and hires a play ground adjacent to the school from the Catholic Church, Port Blair.
